Springing from winter


Yes, winter is winding down and now is a great time to start making plans for some of the super spring events coming up.

Eagle River

This coming Saturday, March 11, be at Sportsmen’s Chalet at 1:00 p.m. for the Relay for Life fundraiser for the BMO Harris Bank team at the “Big Meat Raffle”. Win smoked pork chops, pork chops, rib eye steaks, porterhouse steaks, New York strips, crab legs, shrimp, pot roast, pork roast, slab bacon, hams, ribs and turkey plus assorted meat gift boxes.

The Relay for Life will be held in Eagle River beginning at the Northland Pines High School Friday, June 16, at 4:00 p.m. We will have more details as the event gets closer. To learn more now about what this event entails, visit the website. 

Lake Tomahawk

Want to help support a veteran? This Sunday, March 12, the American Legion Post 318 will be holding a meat raffle at the Shamrock in downtown Lake Tomahawk starting at 1:00 p.m. Raffle tickets are $.50 each and packages of beef steaks, pork, hams and other meats will be raffled. All proceeds will go to assist local veterans.


Feel like a little tom-foolery? Head to Minocqua on Saturday, April 1, for the annual “Only Fools Run at Midnight.” This multi-faceted event sports lots of fun, wacky activities.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., the Hazelhurst Lions Club will host the Spaghetti Dinner and Sundae Bar at the American Legion in Minocqua.

The cost is $8.00 for adults, children 5-10, $4.00 and 4 and under are free. This is open to the public and the”fools.”

Onsite registration starts at 7:00 p.m. at Lakeland Union High School. There are discounted rates for pre-registration. Here is the information and the forms. 

Join in the Fools Fair and the Fool’s Fashion Show (costume contest) and more! The 5K run begins at 11:00 p.m. and ends at midnight.

Post-race there is the Food Feast and awards ceremony. For those not interested in running, volunteer and be at the heart of all the activities!

St. Germain

The St. Germain Women's Service Club 11th Annual Chicken Dinner will be Saturday, April 29 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Community Center. Dinner will feature “Chicken by Rick,” serving  a 1/2 rotisserie chicken, three side dishes, a roll, dessert and a beverage for $12.00.
