37th Annual Three Bear Sled Dog Races in Land O'Lakes

Love the thrill and competition of the Iditarod Dogsled Races in Alaska? Save your travel money and head to Land O’Lakes this weekend for the sensational “37th Annual Three Bear Sled Dog Races and Games.” Professional sled dog teams from throughout the USA and Canada will compete in the sanctioned International Sled Dog Racing Association (ISDRA) event, Feb. 4-5 for trophies and $6,100 in cash awards.

Racing action begins Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with the Junior 3-Dog race and the final event runs at 2:45 p.m.with the 10-dog race. Spectators can watch the races at the Headquarters and the Mushers Village located at the Land O’Lakes Town Hall at 10:00 a.m.

A horse-drawn shuttle will be available between the Gateway Lodge and the Town Hall along Highway B from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

In addition to the races, the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring at Craft Sale and Flea Market at the Elementary School from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Hot food will also be served.

Amy Alt, University of Denver Hockey and Figure Skating Instructor/Coach, will be conducting a free ice skating clinic at the Snowflake Ice Skating Rink in downtown Land O’ Lakes from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. This is open to everyone from beginners to adults.

Don’t miss the ever-popular “Fido Fashion Show” at 2:00 p.m. where locals bring their canine buddies attired in the finest duds and costumes. The “Best of Show” and 1st and 2nd places will be awarded to the adult and children winning categories.

Then, at 2:30 p.m. cheer on the “Barkolounger Races.”

Saturday evening, put on your dancing shoes and attend the “Musher’s Ball” at the Gateway Lodge from 8:00 p.m. until midnight. Admission is free and music is by “Borderline.”

Sunday the sled dog races begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue until 2:15 p.m. The free ice skating clinic continues from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The Children’s Mutts Races are at 1:00 p.m. with pre-registration held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.on Sunday. There are prizes for the speediest pups.
