St. Germain Radar and Bikini Runs roar back Feb. 3 & 4
2016 Racers ready their machines for the South Bay race tracks on Little St. Germain
It is fast becoming the hottest winter spectator event in the Northwoods. February 3-4 are the 2017 dates for the St.Germain Radar Run, presented by Discover Wisconsin and Boondock Nation. The event returns to West Bay on Little St. Germain Lake thanks to the more typical winter temperatures this year.
And the Bikini Runs? You bet there will be dozens of plucky women who will brave the cold in their wee bikinis to raise funds for the three worthy organizations. Sponsored by Knockers, the donated proceeds will be shared by Plum Lake Ambulance,St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department and the Pink Ribbon Riders.
The Fun Runs will take place on the 660’ snow track and the speed runs will be on the 1000’ of shaved ice.
The excitement revs up Friday with registration opening at noon and speed runs being at 1:00 p.m. that goes until 4:00 p.m. on the shaved ice race track.
At 3:00 p.m.,there is a snowmobile trail ride. Racing action starts at 5:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m. with the Gas-Shoot Out drag racing under the lights. Next under the lights is the Snow Outlaw drag racing as the ten fastest sleds in the Midwest compete on the snow race track.
That evening is open to everyone who wants to test their iron on the 1000’ shaved ice track for $5 a run. For those taking part in the competitions, entrance fees for the 660’ snow track are $5 each or five runs for $20. On the 1000’ shaved ice track, the $25 entrance fee includes three runs. Extra runs are $5 each or five runs for $20. There is a $40 entrance fee for "open modified unlimited class.”
If you think this is all about racing, think again! The St. Germain Bo Boen snowmobile club will host a heated food tent on the ice throughout the two-days. There will be plenty of music provided as well as free shuttles to the ice from the designated parking areas. Click here to view a map of parking, lake access and race track locations. Racing thunders into action on Saturday at with the Fun runs and Speed runs starting at 10:00 a.m., make a point to watch the St. Germain Sentry Shopping Cart races - always a hoot!
Scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. the Knockers Bikini Races, featuring Divas Snow Gear, take over the ice in the acclaimed fundraiser to battle breast cancer and support area emergency services. The speeds get faster and faster every year on sleds “wo-manned" by these chill-challenging chicks.
Next on the agenda is the Snow Outlaw Winter Nationals Finale. This year all racers will be competing for the following prizes:
- The top speed driver is awarded the "Snow King" trophy on display at the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame
- $500.00 purse for the fastest speed over 180 mph!
- $500.00 purse for the top speed of the day
All awards for races and the bikini race will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Whitetail Inn on Highway 70, on the west side of St. Germain.
