Christmas concerts, bonfires, lunches and loads of Holiday fun

Holiday merry-making continues this weekend in many area communities.

In Eagle River, the Eagle River Business Association is offering free sleigh rides for Christmas shoppers in the downtown area. Rocking W Stables will be giving rides from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 3 and every Saturday through Dec. 31.

Also in Eagle River, a Live Nativity Scene at Christ Lutheran Church, 201 N. Third St., Eagle River, will have three live performances. The first two evenings are Thursday, Dec. 1 and Friday, Dec. 2  from 6:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. Live performances are every 20 minutes followed by refreshments served in the school gym.

The Live Nativity will also perform Dec. 3, Saturday evening, from 6:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m. There will be live actors, music and animals at the performances.

Friday, Dec. 2, starting at 4:00 p.m., it is Manitowish Water’s turn to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. The celebration starts with “Santa’s Christmas for the Town,” featuring craft sales staffed by Camp Jorn, hot dogs, Chili and cider served by the Lioness Club.

The Claus’ arrive at 5:00 p.m. and will meet with the children to take their Christmas wish lists. Then at 6:00 p.m., it’s the “Old Fashioned Christmas Tree Lighting” at Koller Park. Santa will assume his official duty of lighting the tree. There will be a bonfire and Christmas caroling, too!

Then on Saturday, Dec. 3, pick up your tickets for the “Annual Manitowish Waters Lioness Holiday Home Tour and Luncheon” from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Tour private homes on your own and have a wonderful Holiday luncheon and raffles at Little Bohemia. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased that day, or, preferably, in advance at Little Bohemia Lodge, the Manitowish Waters Chamber Office and Floral Consultants of Manitowish Waters.

This Saturday, Dec. 3, in St. Germain, it’s “Lunch with Santa”, hosted by the St. Germain Lioness Club. The party begins at 10:30 a.m. and lasts until 1:00 p.m.

The kids will enjoy a morning of fun events at the various crafting tables where they will create different holiday items, decorate cookies, write letters to Santa, dance in bubbles and much more.

There will be face painting and Christmas gift bags given to the children. Lunch is hot dogs, chips cookies and punch. The lunch will be at the St. Germain Community Building. This is a free event.

Minocqua’s Christmas celebrating continues this weekend with  Minocqua Library Foundation Book Sale on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the library.

In addition to book sales, gift wrapping is available and there will be special help on hand to help the children with gift selections.

Over at the Old Train Depot at the old “Clothes Connection” location, the Northwoods Model Railroad Club will hold its Holiday Model Train Show. The exhibit will be on display for viewing Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Other dates for viewing are Dec. 10 and every day Dec. 17 — 31 with the exceptions of Dec. 18 and 25. Hours are 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.

What better way to celebrate the Holidays than with the superb music at the “Campanile Chorus & Lakeland Band Winter Concert” Sunday, Dec. 4, at 1:00 p.m. at the Campanile Center for the Arts at 131 W Milwaukee in downtown Minocqua.

This is a two-hour concert and a $5 donation is suggested.

If you are in the Lake Tomahawk area, make sure to drop off pairs of mittens for the “Mitten Tree” at Family Hair Care. The “Mitten Tree” is sponsored by the Lake Tomahawk Lioness and mittens may be dropped off beginning at 9:00 a.m. daily. They are closed Saturday and Sunday.
