Look at your calendar and not out the window - yes, it’s the official start of Gun Deer Season this Saturday, Nov. 19, at 6:34 a.m. in Vilas and Oneida counties.
Deer hunting widows, wipe away your lonely tears, call your girlfriends and head out for a bevy of great things to do!
Friday night, the Campanile Center for the Arts will be showing “African Queen”, on its monthly Classic Movie night. The movie, starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn, begins at 7:00 p.m. with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is free but a donation of $5 is suggested. The Campanile is located at 131 Milwaukee St., Minocqua. There will be concessions available.
Also, in Minocqua, is the 32nd Annual Jack Frost and Company and the Waters Holiday Market at the Waters. This is a much anticipated Holiday event and there is a huge number of crafters that participate in the show.
The dates are Friday, Nov. 18 through Sunday, Nov. 20 and the hours are Friday: 9:00 a.m.— 8:00 p.m., Saturday: 9:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m. and Sunday: 9:00 a.m.— 2:00 p.m.
Another new, great happening in Minocqua is the “2nd Annual Sneek Peak on the Island,” Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19. Don’t wait for Black Friday to seek out great deals in Minocqua. Visit the shops and stores as they launch great sale prices early.
In addition to the sales, there will be promotions, refreshments, product demonstrations and prizes.
Many of the stores will remain open late on Friday. This is a great way to get a jump start on your Christmas shopping!
In Eagle River at the Kalmar Center on Highway 45 N, join in on the Holiday Bazaar & Christmas Cookie Sale. Explore the unique craft items and delve into tempting food items. Load up on homemade cookies and candies for the season and save yourself some baking time!
Refreshments will be on sale. The proceeds from the Bazaar will go to “Warm the Children” and “Headstart”.
Now here is something really new and different. “The Northwoods Escape Room,” invites hunting widows to gather and develop a strategy to find a way out of their Escape Room, known as Aunt Edna’s Cabin.
Participants evaluate clues and work together to come up with an “escape”. A record of how long it takes to escape is maintained and compared to others on the website.

In Rhinelander, Saturday, Nov. 19, at James William Middle School there is the “Show and Sell Craft Show” and the “Widows Weekend Bake Sale” from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
There will be gift items, holiday decorations, stained glass, wood furniture and more. There also will be food available. Profits from the event will be donated to the homeless pets at the Oneida County Humane Society.
