Pool-ar Bear Plunging at its seasonal best!

Here it is! Labor Day Weekend! There is definitely a sniff of coolness in the air and it promises fall colors and smells of burning leaves and evening fireplace scenes are getting close!
Even if you are not participating this Saturday, Sept. 3, don’t miss all the fun and delicious food at the Eagle River VFW on Highway 70, at the Second Annual “Pool-ar” Bear Plunge. Once again WRJO has conspired to come up with gut-busting fun event as plungers face a swimming pool stuffed with two tons of ice, all to raise money for a good cause. Out of every $1.00 raised, $.90 directly benefits “Homes for our Troops”, a private charitable group that builds specially designed homes for severely wounded veterans.
For those unfamiliar with “ Homes for our Troops”, this organization pairs with a post-911 veteran who may be an amputee, suffering from full or partial paralysis or traumatic brain injury. The veteran chooses where the house will be built and it is designed with his/her special needs in mind.
After the home is built, there is assistance provided to help them to rebuild their lives. To date, there have been 222 mortgage-free homes given to our veterans with 76 currently in the process of building.
This is a private organization that was founded in 2004 and has been voted as one of the top military and veteran charities. To learn more about this Home of our Troops, visit this website.
At the plunge location, food will be served by the VFW starting at 11:00 a.m. with the plunge at 1:00 p.m. If you have always wanted to try a Polar Plunge but weren’t up to standing around in frigid temperatures in your swimsuit - now is your chance to “belly up” in a climate more to your liking.
There will be raffles all day long as well as a 50/50 drawing. Let’s go all out to beat last year’s remarkable $6,100 inaugural year total!
To sign up for the plunge, go to the WRJO website for registration and waiver forms. Pledge registration forms to plunge will be accepted through Saturday. A pledge minimum of $35 is required.
