Pigging out on music, food and fun!
Attention pork and music fans! Pig in the Pines: Bacon, BBQ and Bands comes to the Community Park in St. Germain this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6. What started out six years ago as a food event has now expanded its venue to include some really great music and delightful family fun activities.
Last year, St Germain Chamber of Commerce Director Penny Wiseman and Events Coordinator, Judy Juries, announced that the sixth annual event would have a name change to “Bacon, BBQ and Bands” to reflect the added events and the stepped up attention to musical acts.
Music is now available all day from Polka bands to heavy hitting hard rock - there is something for everyone’s taste.
On Friday, BBB musical entertainment begins at Noon, with the Mike Schneider Polka Band, from Milwaukee. They will take the Chamber Stage until 2:30 p.m.
At 3:30 p.m. the Kyle Mertz Band from Rhinelander lands on the Chamber Stage and will perform their brand of country/rock music until 6:00 p.m.
That evening, a favorite from last year, Road Trip, from the Fox River Valley, will again captivate the audience with covers and original music as they rock the Miller Stage from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
On Saturday, Aug. 6 at 11:30 a.m., solo guitarist and singer, Brian McLaughlin, climbs onto the Chamber Stage to entertain the crowd with his wide variety of country, pop and rock songs that earned him Wisconsin Area Music Industry's 2015 Northwest Quadrant People's Choice Music Teacher of the Year Award and Musician of the Year Award.
At 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. the swingin’, rockin’ tunes of the Liam Ford Band takes over center stage. This award-winning Rockabilly band is guaranteed to make you move with their infectious line up of hip swaying tunes.
If heavy metal gets your head banging, don’t miss Hyde when they commandeer the Miller stage at 5:00 p.m. with three hours of driving, heart-pounding music.
Finally, at 8:30 p.m., headline act “Head East” makes their debut in St. Germain performing some of their past hits, such as, “Never Been Any Reason”, “Since You’ve Been Gone” and “Love Me Tonight.”
This Midwest band originated in east central Illinois and several of its members, past and present, hail from Kansas City. Today, founding member Roger Boyd, keyboards and vocals, continues as the band’s leader, a position he has held since 1969 when Head East hit the rock scene.
But music is only a part of the events filling the BBB schedule! Be sure to sign up Friday afternoon to take part in the ”Bacon Dash,” the first year for this fun 5K walk/run. The run will follow trails in St. Germain and conclude with bacon appetizers at the Pig in the Pines Bacon Bash grounds.
Pre-event registration is $30 for adults and 14 and under is $20; $40 and $30 the day of the event. All participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and admittance to the Pig in the Pines Bacon Bash.
Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. at the south window of the Community Park Pavilion by the Pig Ticket Trailer. The race begins at 6 p.m. For more information, visit the Chamber website or call 715-479-2205.
Other day time activities include several multi-dimensional large inflatables, including the “Boot Camp Challenge” and the “3-in-1 Outback Bounce House”.
Racing at its most fun returns with the “Monster Trike Races”. Adults and kids mount oversize tricycles and race each other around a race course.
Last and hardly least will be the pork vendors offering every kind of mouth-watering pig delectable from all over the US. Also, local bars and restaurants will compete in a pulled pork contest and will compete for first prize that will be awarded on the Miller Stage Saturday night at 8:10 p.m.
