Music, fishing and food!

The Phelps Bandstand

The last weekend of June? Already? Summer officially began this past Monday but locals and visitors alike have been taking advantage of some really great spring weather. This weekend is offering some unique opportunities for fun!

You just can’t keep a good idea from growing. This apparently is the case over in Phelps and the Twin Lakes Musical Fest. The event will be held Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25.  The Fest will be held on the shores of North Twin Lake, downtown on Highway 17 at the bandstand. The event is sponsored by Northern Edge Sports and Marine plus many local sponsors for this first time musical extravaganza.

The Fest started out as a celebration by Twin Haven Resort for the 20th anniversary for one of the bands. Carol Molter is the event organizer and a member of the family that owns Twin Haven Resort. According to an interview in the Vilas County News Review, other bands asked to jump on board and the event grew. All bands are donating their time and talent and the city of Phelps enthusiastically joined in.

This event now is a fundraiser for Phelps Youth Sports and Recreation and Molter hopes this will be an  annual event that will grow big enough to have a big name touring band for a closing act.

There is no charge to enjoy the music. Bands will begin playing Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and go util midnight. Saturday the music begins at 11:00 a.m. and will conclude at midnight. In addition to the music, there will be a food, beer and refreshment tent manned by the Phelps Fire Department. There will be giveaways and raffles all day long.

For details about the musical line up, visit the Phelps Chamber of Commerce website. Or call the Chamber at 715-545-3800.

Eagle River again is the location for fierce musky fishing competition as the Professional Musky Tournament Trail (PMTT) holds its second event of the year. This is a four-event series concluding with the championship tournament at the Ranger Boats World Championship, Lake Miltona, MN, October 22–23, 2016. Event details are online.

All competitors must be member of the PMTT but can join on the registration form. This form and tournament rules can be found online. Calls can be made to 815-478-4092 for more information or email.

Headquarters for the event is the Eagle River Inn and Resort on Highway 70, just east of Highway 17 S. Registration begins Friday, June 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The rules meeting begins at 7:00 pm. A get together is scheduled for Saturday at  6:00 p.m. and the Sunday Awards Ceremony will be at 3:00 p.m.

Now here is a delicious sounding idea! Conover will be hosting its "Taste of Conover" this Sunday, June 26 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Local businesses will be cooking up a storm to tempt the palates of those attending.

The "Taste" will be held in the Conover Town Park. There will also be music and fun activities for the children. Money raised at this event will go to the John Mark Price Scholarship Fund. For more information, call the Conover Chamber of Commerce at 715-479-4928.
