Memorial Weekend 2016

We barely have the snow off the ground and BAM! … Memorial Day Weekend is upon us in just nine days!

This is really an exciting season for all of us in the Northwoods! Not only do our visitors return, but businesses re-open and the communities plan a ton of great events to fill out the summer with great times and memories.

It also is a solemn reminder of those military who gave their lives unselfishly to ensure our freedoms.

So without further ado - let’s get on with Memorial Weekend 2016 Northwoods-style!

Eagle River: Beginning Saturday, May 28, the downtown streets of Eagle River will fill with booths at the season’s first Arts and Crafts show from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

In addition, businesses will be holding sidewalk sales so keep on the look up for some real bargains.

St. Germain: This Memorial Weekend the community will be hosting three great events. On Sunday, May 29, at the Veteran's Memorial Wall, there will be a service from 1:00- 3:00 PM. There will be speakers, the flag raising, presentation of the Honor Guard, the wreath placement and finally, taps.

The same day at the Community Park, old iron will line the grass at the Classic Sled Round Up, sponsored by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame.

Snowmobiles from the days of yore will be found in displays and for sale at the swap meet at the 33rd year for this event. The Round Up will be held from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM. For more information, visit the website or call the museum at 715 542- 4HOF (4463).

With the first Monday after Memorial Day, May 30, the St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department Association presents the first Flea Market of the season. If you have never been to this mind-boggling arena, make a point to take a Monday between May 30 and Sept. 5 to peruse the dozens and dozens of huge aisles of rediscovered treasures.

The Flea Market opens at 8:00 AM and lasts until 3:00 PM rain or shine all summer.

The St. Germain Chamber of Commerce also posts a page on their website of other Flea Markets and Farmer’s Markets in the Northwoods. Click here to see a listing and lots more information on these locations.

Land O’Lakes: Saturday, May 28, look for your favorite automotive oldie as Lando hosts its first Big Classic Car Show. The public is invited to bring their pride and joy and sign up at the Chamber by May 23 for only $5 or register on the day of the event after 8:00 AM for $7.

Autos that arrive first will be at the head of the line-up and judging will be done by the drivers and the public. For more information, contact Sandy at the Chamber at 715-547-3432. Sign up at the chamber from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM Monday through Friday or Saturday from 9:00 AM until noon.

Lando will also be holding their “This and That Sales” throughout the community. Arts and Crafts sales, business sidewalk sales, garage sales and so much more will be featured at the Summer Launch event, Saturday, May 28, from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. Visit the Chamber website.

Just a few things to consider in addition to dropping a fishing line in the lake, attending a Memorial Day Service, grilling a nice, juicy steak or heading out for a delicious meal. Ahhhhhhhh - summer in the Northwoods - can it be any better?
