You can't beat the first two weeks of February for a plethora of amazing things to do and see throughout the Northwoods. Snowmobiling gets better and better as the month progresses and area towns roll out a virtual red carpet of smashing events!
This coming weekend is the 11th Annual Labatt Blue USA Adult Pond Hockey Championships in Eagle River. This huge event returns to the ice on Dollar Lake Feb. 5-7. There are approximately 340 teams with more than 2,000 individuals participating on the 30 ice rinks set up by the Eagle River Fire Department.
President’s Day/Weekend is fast approaching and here are some fabulous events to attend. The St. Germain Radar Racers run is being held on South Bay on Little St. Germain, Lake, February 12-13. Once again, this event has been expanded to include even more great features.
As in past years, there are two race tracks — a 1000’ shaved ice track and a 660’ snow packed track. The busy itinerary begins Friday at noon with registration. The tracks are open from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Entrance fees are $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00 for packed snow. On shaved ice there are three runs for $25.00 with extra runs for $5.00 each.
New this year are the tethered hot air balloon rides all afternoon and evening on Friday and Saturday. Both afternoons, enjoy music, food and beverages in the heated tent or visit the many vendor booths for the latest in snowmobile gear, accessories and sleds.
On Saturday, registration opens at 9:00 a.m. Don’t miss the riotous Grocery Cart races! The ever-popular Bikini Run begins at 1:00 p.m., kicked off by an F-16 flyover. Monies raised by the racing participants are donated to the Pink Ribbon Riders, St. Germain Fire Department and Plum Lake Ambulance.
Racing finals begin at 2:00 p.m. with the Sno King trophy being presented to the top speed winner at 5:00 p.m. at the awards and prizes ceremony.

Also that weekend, Conover will be hosting is “Blizzard Blast”. Saturday, Feb. 13, beginning at 9:00 a.m.there is a day-long list of events featuring fun and some unusual activities.
This year the “Blizzard Blast” is featuring a Snowman Building Contest that is open to all residents and businesses within 50 miles. All you need to do is submit a picture on the contest page. For all the details check this out.
There is something for every age to enjoy. Shop the artisan craft show starting at 9:00 a.m., take a horse-drawn scenic tour, watch snowshoe baseball, sign the kids up for the dogsled dash, laugh outlaid at the recliner races and so much more. Most of the events are free or have a nominal charge.

Ever dream about taking a ride with snowmobiling’s greats? The Snowmobile Hall of fame and Hot Dawg Garage Heaters are presenting the “Ride with the Champs”, Saturday, Feb 13.
Registration opens at 7:00 a.m. at the Whitetail Inn in St. Germain and there are six riding groups for that day.The ride, which includes lunch and the evening banquet is $150. There will also be bus rides available for those who do not ride. To attend only the evening Hall of Fame banquet at the Whitetail Inn, the ticket is $50.
