The snow is here and are we EXCITED!
Always friendly - we love snowmobiliers!
What do we love to do most of all during the winter in the Northwoods? Snowmobile, of course! After impatiently waiting for weeks, the snow is here and it couldn’t be appreciated more! This weekend was originally scheduled for the Radar Run in St. Germain on Little St.Germain Lake. But the warm weather conditions that began the season caused the organizers to delay the event to the weekend of February 12-14. They want to make sure ice conditions on the lake are safe.
Fortunately, the frigid weather and snow finally filled in the trails allowing groomers to return the area into a snowmobiler’s paradise. How can we claim Paradise? Hang on to your snow boots - just a few basic facts and figures that more than justify this claim!
First and foremost is the stellar trail system that connects to the 25,000 miles of funded trails in Wisconsin. In Vilas County there are more than 600 miles of funded groomed trails that are meticulously maintained by the 11 snowmobile clubs in the area. Most of these clubs are grooming six to seven days a week, depending upon weather conditions.
In Oneida County there are 400 miles of funded groomed trails, also maintained by the eight snowmobile clubs. Grooming doesn’t always mean just smooth trails. These trails are designed to provide the safest routes possible, keeping them free from debris and removing hanging branches - drivers have their work cut out for them! They have been known to help out in a rescue or two as well!
Then we have the finest accommodations found anywhere - from luxury accommodations to a cozy rustic cabin. If you need help in finding a place to stay, go below and click on the name of a town where you would like to stay and the Chamber will be happy to assist you!
Hand-in-hand with a great place to stay is the great food available along all the trails and accessible in the towns throughout the area. The best place to look is one of the detailed maps that marks where to head. Also there are markers on many of the trails that will show you in which direction to go. Find just what you are looking for from Sushi to a 64 ounce Prime Rib - it’s all here.
Then there are the services that make snowmobiling convenient. Need to rent a sled? Or did you forget to replace your carbides and need to get it done fast? Maybe you want to make a move to the area. You won’t find an area more understanding of a snowmobiler’s needs anywhere. There are many snowmobile businesses to fill your every need. Check the Chamber websites and business listings on the maps.
Perhaps the real reason thousands of snowmobilers come here each year is the wonderful hospitality and the incredible beauty of Nature around almost every bend. Bridges cross flowing waters lined with snow-laden pines. An eagle flies down the trail in front of you. A herd of deer graze on winter feed just off the trail. A fox scampers across the trail chasing a tiny creature. It’s all here to enjoy on Mother Nature’s ticket.
The long range forecast looks very good for February with plenty of cold and snow to come. Make your reservations now - if conditions deteriorate, most business are very understanding — check when calling if you have any concerns.
We look forward to showing off our gorgeous area to you soon! Think SNOW and ride SAFELY!
