Making the most of winter!
There are many of us who are anxiously awaiting the right conditions for snowmobiling. Though the snow may be a bit on the skinny side, the cold weather provides loads of fun recreational opportunities. How long has it been since you laced up a pair of ice skates? There is a rich supply of both outdoor and indoor rinks across the local areas. Here are a few locations you might want to check out:
Located in Winter Park, just outside of the downtown area, this site offers a regulation-size ice skating rink equipped with lights, a warming hut with lighting and electricity.
The Eagle River Recreation Association Ice Dome has public skating open to all on Sunday nights from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. They are located east of Highway 45 on Highway 70. For more details on facility services visit their website at http://www.erra.com/ or call 715-479-4858.
There is also an outdoor rink located on Silver Lake Rd across from Trees for Tomorrow.
Lac du Flambeau
The YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa has a great outdoor skating pond and is located at 13400 Camp Nawakwa Ln.
This rink is behind the downtown area, just off the boat landing.
Head downtown and find the Snowflake Ice Rink that is maintained by the fire department. There is a warming house and some skates that can be borrowed.
The Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena – 7961 Old Highway 51, Arbor Vitae. Here are the dates this indoor facility is available to public skating:
Sunday –Jan 24, 2016 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Sunday –Jan 31, 2016 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Sunday –Feb 7, 2016 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Sunday –Feb 14, 2016 5:00 – 6:30 pm
There is a $3 fee and it is suggested to call before coming as schedules can change; 715-356-6762. Their website is http://www.lakelandarena.org/.
Winter Park has the Chip Wulff Memorial Pond open for ice skating. There is a warming hut and other facilities available at Winter Park, however there are no skate rentals. Visit http://www.minocquawinterpark.org/ for more details.
Torpy Park, in downtown Minocqua, is a great outdoor public ice rink. Restrooms are available, as well as picnic tables and a warming house.
The Bernie VanAcker Memorial Ice Skating Rink has provided visitors with outdoor enjoyment in the Wisconsin winter. The Lions are in the process of constructing a pavilion over the rink. The rink is located at Razor Back Ridge, just down from the intersection of County N and Razorback Rd. by The Corner Store.
Day or night the ice rink, located in the Community Park, is open for public ice skating.
Brandy Park has an outdoor public ice rink just off Highway 51 North on Lemma Creek Road.
There is also a public rink located by the Woodruff Town Hall.
