When the luscious scent of beef roasting over hot charcoal grills fills downtown Minocqua, you know it’s time for the 51st Beef-A-Rama, this coming Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM. While the mouth-watering roast beef is the darling of the event, the entire day is filled with a huge variety of activities to entertain any one of any age who loves a good time.
Early morning begins with a good bout of exercise to whip appetites into shape. There are two runs scheduled — one for the young set at 8:15 AM and 9:00 for those a bit older for the Lakeland Rotary Rump Roast Run. Registration begins at 7:00 AM at the American Legion Hall.
Also at 9:00 AM, the day long music begins in Torpy Park and the Craft Show and Farmers Market at lower Torpy Park. Other events around town starting at the same time and throughout the morning are a non-profit pasture, Cow Counting Contest, chainsaw art carving, kids games, a beer garden, face painting, a petting zoo, bouncy houses and assorted food sales at Torpy Park.
For those with a close affinity for the beef competition, judging begins at 11:00 AM until 1:45 PM and there is a beef eating contest at Torpy Park at 11:45 AM. The Cow Pie Plop starts is from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Island City Ice Cream.
The hugely popular parade of beef with march down Oneida Street starting at 2:45 PM culminating with the awards ceremony at Torpy Park at 3:00 PM.
Streets in downtown Minocqua close at 7:30 AM and reopen at 5:00 PM. There is shuttle service from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM to Torpy Park leaving from Lakeland Union High School, Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena, and Carpet City.
