Coloring the Northwoods with Fun!


What a wonderful way to kick off fall! Several of the Northwoods communities are holding their fall fest celebrations and we want to give you a heads up for the weekend. Let’s get to it!

St. Germain:  As the Birthplace of Colorama, St. G will be celebrating the 56th year for crafts, food and fun on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:00 AM until 6:30 PM at the Community Park. This year a couple of  new activities have been added, beginning with “Pints in the Park.” There will be five breweries featuring 11 different brews available for sampling. The cost is $5 to sample all 11 - the beer will be available for purchase at Colorama.

Tribute Brewing Co.: Blueberry Train Wheat Ale, Summerwind IPA

Lakefront Brewery: Oktoberfest Lager, Pumpkin Lager

Sand Creek Brewing Company: Cranberry Ale, Cranberry Lemonade

O'so Brewing Company - Tap House: O-toberfest

Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co.: Harvest Patch Shandy, Heart of Oak, Oktoberfest, Uber-Oktoberfest

Make the day a real outdoor event and join in the “Human Foosball Tournaments” for Family and Friends. The “Family” portion starts at 9:30 AM until 11:00 AM for check in and practice with the  tournament beginning at 11:00 AM lasting until 2:00 PM. The “Friends (over 21)” check in and practice is from 2:00 PM until 3:00 — the tournament is from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM.

And that is just the start. There will be the Crafts Show and Farmers Market from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM and the ever-popular Mum sale from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. During this time slot, Pumpkin Painting will be available.

From 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM hop on board the horse-drawn hay wagons and explore area trails the old fashioned way. Of course, there will be food concession sales in the pavilion from 9:00 AM until 6:30 PM. There will be live music in the park all afternoon long.

Phelps: The Phelps Women’s Club is sponsoring “Scarecrow Fest” Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM in downtown Phelps, with scarecrow entries opening at 8:00 AM and closing at 11:00 AM.

Beginning at 11:00 AM there will be live music, as well as food, beer and wine stands open. Noon features the Humane Society of Vilas County Pet Parade, followed by Bingo until 4:00 PM and homemade wine tasting.

There will also be sea plane rides, hayrides and an irresistible”,Pumpkin Chunking” contest to hit a target in NorthTwin Lake! Bring your own pumpkin and enter the “Largest Pumpkin” contest.

Lake Tomahawk: The 25th Annual Lake Tomahawk Lioness Club Harvest Fest and Lions Club Car Show will be held at Snowshoe Baseball Diamond on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The festival features an Arts and Crafts show, a Famers Market, caramel apples and the famous Snowshoe Park pies. There are plenty of children’s activities with wooden pumpkin decorating, face painting and fun for the whole family.

Boulder Junction: There is still time to pick up your tickets for the 56th Annual Colorama Dinner, featuring a wild game and chicken feed  that will be held Saturday evening, Saturday, Sept. 19 ,from 6:00-8:00 PM at Camp Manitowish. Doors open at 5:00 PM for shrimp cocktail appetizers and a silent auction featuring Peeplures Jewelry. Dinner begins exactly at 6:00 PM and dessert is Pies by Chad of the Bakery in Boulder Junction.

Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce and are $16 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. Seating is on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are requested for groups of 10 or more. The eighth grade class will be servers at the meal and tips collected will help to fund their class trip.
